Seoul, South Korea (December 6, 2017) – NYC & Company, New York City’s official destination marketing organization, has renewed a city-to-city partnership to boost international tourism between Seoul, South Korea and New York City. Originally formed in 2011, the one-year collaboration includes the exchange of marketing assets, the sharing of best practices in tourism marketing, and promotional offers to bolster reciprocal travel between the two destinations including special fares by Asiana Airlines through mid-January.

“It is a proud moment to renew our city-to-city agreement with Seoul—one of the coolest and most dynamic cities of the world—and to demonstrate our continued commitment to this world-class destination. Seoul was our first city-to-city tourism partner in Asia, and South Korea is a burgeoning market, with 386,000 visitors to New York City last year – a 36% increase since our original agreement was signed. Now, more than ever, it is important to reinforce our commitment and do all we can to welcome global visitors to both of our destinations,” said NYC & Company president and CEO Fred Dixon.

“We’re delighted to welcome the renewal this year after the first agreement six years ago. We hope Seoul will be able to attract not only New Yorkers but also those international visitors who come to New York City through this collaborative marketing efforts” said Mr. Joon-ho Ahn, Director-General of Tourism & Sports Bureau, Seoul Metropolitan Government. “As the joint marketing period overlaps Pyeongchang Olympic Winter Games in February 2018, we hope to welcome more New Yorkers to Korea.”

As part of the partnership, the cities will exchange media valued at USD 240,500 each to promote seasonal travel to the other destination in their respective city. In Seoul, New York City advertisements will appear on bus stop shelters and taxi shelters for 4 weeks. In NYC, advertisements promoting Seoul will be found on bus stop shelters and LinkNYC screens across the five boroughs for four weeks, starting later this month.

Additionally, Asiana Airlines is offering special fares from New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Seoul Incheon Airport starting at USD 736, and from Seoul to New York City starting from KRW 880,000, for travel before May 31, 2018 (excluding fuel surcharge and tax.) Visitors can book before January 14, 2018 at flyasiana.com.

“Asiana Airlines is delighted to be a part and we will work as a bridge between the two cities to make this partnership a success,” said an Asiana Airlines’ official.
