NEW YORK CITY TOURISM OFFICIALS TRAVEL TO CANADA TO PROMOTE CITY'S NEW DEVELOPMENTS AND ROLL OUT WELCOME MAT TO KEY INTERNATIONAL MARKET 

—NYC & Company’s “New” NYC Press Event and Three-City Canadian Sales Mission to Spotlight Destination Among City’s Third Largest Source of International Travel—

Toronto, Ontario (May 1, 2017) — NYC & Company, the City’s official destination marketing organization, hosted a press conference today in Toronto, kicking off a three-city Canadian sales mission also reaching Quebec City and Montreal. At the press event, Fred Dixon, president and CEO of NYC & Company, presented highlights of the “new” New York City, including developments in hotels, attractions, dining, and retail, to influential Canadian audiences at the Thompson Toronto. The media and sales events in Canada reinforce New York City’s longstanding commitment to welcome Canadians to the U.S. destination, who serve as the City’s third largest international travel market. 

"New York City welcomes with open arms travelers from Canada, one of our largest sources of international visitation.  The City's diversity, tolerance and welcoming spirit complement the unmatched offerings of our five boroughs, and there's never been a better time to visit," said New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.

“An ever-evolving destination with momentous developments from hotels to entertainment, we encourage Canadians to come and experience the ‘New’ New York City’ now,” said Fred Dixon, president and CEO of NYC & Company. “All are welcome, and we look forward to continuing to welcome Canadians to New York City in 2017 and the years to come.”

NYC & Company recently announced a new international communications and marketing initiative titled, “New York City – Welcoming the World.” In Canada, this campaign will be a communications message, but will also be integrated into all in market sales efforts.

The NYC & Company Canadian sales mission will kick off in Toronto on May 2, and continue on to Quebec City on May 3, and Montreal May 4. The sales mission provides a platform for NYC & Company member organizations to grow business and form relationships in market though meetings with the travel trade.

NYC & Company member organizations attending the 2017 Canada Sales Mission include: Broadway Inbound, Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises, Empire State Building Observatory, Group Sales Box Office/Broadway.com, Madison Square Garden Company, Marriott International, New York Water Taxi, One World Observatory, National Geographic Encounter: Ocean Odyssey, Starwood Legacy Hotels of NYC, THE RIDE, and The Shops at Columbus Circle.

Announced at the press event, Flight Centre Canada, the country’s largest travel retailer, will launch an NYC Getaway package in mid-May. The National Promotion will offer Canadians $150.00 credit for future travel and more when they book air and hotel to NYC between May and September.
