New York City (October 1, 2012) — NYC & Company, New York City's official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, today named 92nd Street Y its Culture Spot pick for October. From October 1 to 31, 92nd Street Y will offer a 20% discount on tickets to a selection of talks and readings at 92Y Uptown and 92YTribeca. 92Y’s spoken-word events bring together the finest minds and most intriguing public figures of our time, including political leaders, iconic artists and writers, journalists, scientists and business leaders, for thoughtful and candid conversations. A monthly program that spotlights cultural organizations across the five boroughs, Culture Spot elevates the City’s arts community and encourages local and visitor exploration. Talks and readings discounted through the Culture Spot offer include how we can fix it, “How to Love Wine: A Talk and Tasting” with New York Times wine critic Eric Asimov and a reading by Nobel Prize recipient Orhan Pamuk.
Additional Culture Spot events include a conversation between famed comedian, actor and musician Jack Black and Peter Travers on Black’s illustrious, diverse career, a talk by Tim Gunn on the fascinating histories of common clothing items and a reading by National Book Award–winning and Pulitzer Prize–winning poet Mary Oliver, who will share work from her new book of poems, A Thousand Mornings.
