NYC & COMPANY NAMES MOSTLY MOZART FESTIVAL CULTURE SPOT FOR AUGUST 2012

—Lincoln Center’s Annual Summer Music Series Offers Exclusive Admission Discount-—

New York City (August 1, 2012)—NYC & Company, New York City's marketing, tourism and partnership organization, today named Lincoln Center’s Mostly Mozart Festival its Culture Spot pick for August 2012. Culture Spot is a monthly program that spotlights cultural organizations across the five boroughs, elevates the City’s arts community and encourages local and visitor exploration. An annual summer music series, Mostly Mozart Festival returns this year for its 46th run to celebrate the life and music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, as well as works inspired by him. In honor of its Culture Spot designation this month, the Mostly Mozart Festival will offer patrons a second ticket to any Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra performance at 50% off between August 1 and 25.

“Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center is a staple NYC event that contributes to the activity and vibrancy of our city,” said NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta. “We invite New Yorkers and visitors to experience this summer’s rich celebration of music history and culture and encourage everyone to take advantage of this limited-time offer.”

“Celebrating the 10th year of music director Louis Langrée’s outstanding collaboration with the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, saluting the influence of our avian summer friends in Central Park and highlighting the extraordinary musical achievements of Franz Schubert make for an exceptionally rich Mostly Mozart Festival this summer,” said Jane Moss, Ehrenkranz artistic director. “I continue to be awed by the remarkable genius of Mozart himself, which creates such fertile ground for innovation and musical transcendence.”

Focusing on birds this year—“the originators of song”—the festival will explore the avian theme inside and outside of Avery Fisher Hall. Performances include The Murder of Crows—a Park Avenue Armory sound installation by artists Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller; concerts by this summer’s artists in residence, the Brooklyn-based International Contemporary Ensemble; film screenings; a discussion of birdsong and its influence of composers; and bird walks through Central Park—a Mostly Mozart first.

Additional festival highlights will include performances by the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra of works by Mozart, Schubert and Ludwig van Beethoven; a Mark Morris Dance Group performance of Dido and Aeneas—one of their most celebrated works; late-night concerts; pre-concert recitals; and artist talks.
