NYC & COMPANY WINS WEBBY AWARD FOR BEST TOURISM WEBSITE

New York City (May 17, 2012)—NYC & Company, New York City’s marketing, tourism and partnership organization, today announced its win over four global contenders for Best Tourism Website in the 16th Annual Webby Awards. The accolade—considered the Internet's highest honor—was awarded by members of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, which hosts the yearly event to recognize excellence in websites, interactive advertising, mobile and apps, and online film and video. NYC & Company has won two Webby Awards since relaunching nycgo.com three years ago as an interactive planning website for both residents and visitors.

“The honor of being named the number one tourism website by the internationally recognized Webby Awards is a complement to New York City’s status as the number one travel destination in the United States,” said George Fertitta, CEO of NYC & Company. “On average, nycgo.com is visited monthly by more than half a million users from around the world, including the UK, Australia, Brazil and France. This traffic and our Best Tourism Website recognition serve as a testament to our committed efforts to raising the standards of web development.”

Since 2009, nycgo.com has served as a one-stop hub for comprehensive, interactive and up-to-date information about New York City. Initially developed with digital agency Huge, Inc., the website has since grown to include various booking capabilities through partners Travelocity, Telecharge, Ticketmaster and OpenTable.

Last month, NYC & Company launched a new user-friendly tool called Save the Date, designed to help visitors and the travel trade industry tailor trips by varying interests, preferences, lifestyles and budgets. Save the Date is a two-year interactive calendar that highlights key concerts, parades, festivals and US public holidays; identifies “need periods” when visitors can take advantage of better hotel value and availability; and enables users to create sharable itineraries. In addition to NYC & Company’s signature programs and partnerships—NYC Restaurant Week, Fashion’s Night Out, Broadway Week, Off-Broadway Week, Signature Collection Third Night, Official Family Ambassadors: The Muppets, the Lower Manhattan campaign, NYC<30 (which targets youth travelers) and Comedy Week—Save the Date features exclusive member offers and value incentives from restaurants, hotels, stores, attractions, Broadway, cultural organizations and more.

Comedian and actor Patton Oswalt will host an awards ceremony at the Hammerstein Ballroom on May 21.  It will include the much-anticipated five-word appreciation speeches from all recipients. Viewers at home can watch the HD show live on webbyawards.com.

Webby Awards founder International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences was established in 1998 to encourage the creative, technical and professional progress of the Internet and evolving forms of interactive media.
