NYC & COMPANY ANNOUNCES TICKET SALES FOR FIRST EVER OSCAR NIGHT® AND THE CITY VIEWING EVENT ON MARCH 7
NYC’s Official Oscars Night® America Celebration to Take Place at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall with Proceeds to Benefit NYC & Company Cultural Foundation
Weeklong Promotion to Salute the Oscars® from March 1-7
New York City (February 3, 2010)– NYC & Company, the official marketing, tourism and partnership organization for the City of New York, today announced ticket sales for the “Oscar Night® and the City” event, NYC’s Official Oscars Night® America celebration. The evening event takes place on Sunday, March 7, at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. Tickets can be purchased now for the evening reception and broadcast viewing party at nycgo.com/oscarnight. The event will be the culmination of a weeklong celebration to salute the Oscars® through a series of cultural event and programming efforts March 1-7.
“Great New York stories are told through the movies—the Oscar Night® and the City event is the perfect way for visitors and residents to salute the City’s rich film history while viewing this year’s 82nd Academy Awards ceremony in style. As the official broadcast viewing party for the Oscars® in NYC, attendees can mix and mingle with other local film insiders and aficionados while supporting a great cause, the NYC & Company cultural foundation,” said Karen Sortito, Senior Vice President for Entertainment at NYC & Company.
The Oscar Night® and the City celebration takes place at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, Broadway at 65th Street on Sunday, March 7. Doors open for a cocktail and hors d’oeuvre reception at 7p.m., followed by the official broadcast viewing party at 8:30p.m. Ticket for the “starring role” category are available for $225 (limited availability) while “supporting role” tickets can be purchased for $150.
Several screenings and exhibits will take place during New York City’s weeklong Oscars® celebration. For example, the Film Society of Lincoln Center (70 Lincoln Center Plaza) will host an Oscar®-winning movie marathon March 5-7 featuring New York City-themed films such as “Annie Hall,” “Raging Bull,” “The Godfather,” “West Side Story,” “Klute,” “Broadway Melody,” “French Connection,” and “Dog Day Afternoon.” More information can be found at filmlinc.com or (212) 875-5601.
NYC & Company’s Official NYC Information Center at 810 Seventh Avenue (between 52nd and 53rd Streets) will celebrate “Oscar Night® and the City” with Oscar-themed content and media from March 1 – 7.
During Oscar® Week March 1-7, On Location Tours will offer a 20% discount off their guided New York TV & Movie Site Tour, with proceeds going to the NYC & Company Foundation. More information will be posted at screentours.com; consumers can use the code “Oscar1” to access the discount.
NYC life (Channel 25) will also broadcast Oscars® related content during the week leading up to the Academy Awards.
Proceeds from the Oscar Night® and the City viewing event will benefit the NYC & Company Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization whose cultural tourism development, audience education and outreach projects help sustain the City’s extraordinary nonprofit arts community. Since its inception in 1999, the Foundation has focused on educating domestic and international audiences about the vibrant and diverse cultural community throughout all five boroughs of New York City. To support and promote its mission, the Foundation has created and implemented a range of projects, including NYC Arts on Tour, the Culture Spot monthly campaign and the This is Culture Arts Locator map. It has also funded programs such as the Borough Cultural Tourism Development Grant Program, which supports audience development for cultural programming in all five boroughs, as well as scholarships to support the education and development of the next generation of travel and tourism industry professionals.
