Upcoming Events & Exhibitions

Every winter, New Yorkers are drawn indoors, to the warming splendors of its cultural institutions. We survey the top picks—including opera and ballet at Lincoln Center, new exhibitions at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and innovative performance at St. Ann's Warehouse—in our arts and culture roundup. For more to do in all five boroughs, check out our winter guide and comprehensive events calendar.

Events

The Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden
February 27–April 17
The garden's Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, a 114-year-old Victorian-style landmark, is at its most regal when it's decked out with orchids, that quintessential hothouse flower. This year's show promises orchids by the thousands, in every color, size and shape under the (winter) sun—and takes visitors through our long history with the most fascinating of flowers, and the "orchidelirium" it has inspired.

Exhibitions

Munch and Expressionism at the Neue Galerie
February 18–June 13
Edvard Munch, the turn-of-the-century Norwegian artist, is best known for The Scream. Much loved and imitated, the image captured the growing angst and alienation of the modern age—situating Munch as an inspiration for the Expressionist movement. This exhibition, comprising works by Munch (including The Scream) and younger German and Austrian artists (including Max Beckmann and Oskar Kokoschka) will explore his influence on them, and in turn, their influence on his later work.
